Welcome, I'm Nate.

I’m an independent Artist and Poet from New York and based in the East Coast USA.

Before becoming an independent artist and poet, you would have found me in a hospital, a clinical setting, or a classroom, working with patients, healthcare professionals, and adult students. My professional life took me through science, nursing, and education, while another part of me was quietly building a world of paintings, poetry, and ideas in my home studio.

For years, I came home from work and created. Sometimes it was a painting; sometimes a poem, a page of writing, or an idea that wouldn't leave me alone. Eventually, I decided it was time to open the doors to that world and share what I had been making.

I've always considered myself a bit of a wandering soul: a curious mind, a seeker of meaning, and someone continually finding new ways to understand himself and the world around him. My work spans visual and literary arts, with both exploring recurring themes of freedom, identity, self-expression, and the human condition.

My creative perspective is shaped by personal experiences with cultural identity, sensuality, and life after leaving a high-control religious environment. These experiences have made me particularly interested in the ways we discover ourselves, reclaim our individuality, and transform the stories we've been given into stories of our own.

My years teaching anatomy and physiology also left a lasting impression on my creative practice. Studying the human body gave me an appreciation for its remarkable nature, while working in healthcare brought me closer to the emotional experiences that shape our lives. I'm fascinated by the relationship between the physical body, human connection, vulnerability, and personal meaning. That fascination continues to find its way into my paintings and writing.

Poetry and performance have become an equally important part of my creative life. Over the years, I've organized and hosted weekly and monthly poetry open mics and workshops throughout the Tampa Bay area. In 2023, I directed the first NakedBoysReading theatre performance in St. Petersburg, Florida, bringing literature, performance, and visual art together in a downtown gallery setting. Creating spaces where people can share, connect, and express themselves openly remains one of my favorite parts of this work.

At NateTruly, I bring these different experiences together. Each visual design begins as an original painting, developing into wearable art and collections that invite creativity beyond the gallery walls. My writing, performances, and other projects are extensions of that same exploration.

Ultimately, I hope my work encourages people to be a little more curious, a little more courageous, and a little more comfortable being themselves. Whether it's something you wear, something you read, or something you experience in person, I'd like it to leave you with something worth thinking about.
